A new study by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has highlighted a significant increase in the number of anaerobic digestion plants in the UK which operate outside the water industry – up from just two in 2005 to 68 in 2011 and more in the pipeline.

The short-life planning and consenting taskforce established in October 2011 to bring together offshore renewable developers with Marine Scotland and environmental regulators has published its blueprint to streamline the scoping, planning and consenting of offshore renewables developments in Scotland.

Scotland’s first near shore commercial wave power array, which will power more than 1,000 homes, has been approved by Scottish Energy Minister Fergus Ewing.

UK could lead on marine renewables industry

The UK could become a leading exporter of wave and tidal power equipment and expertise if the Government adopts a more visionary approach to developing marine renewables, according to a new report by the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee.

The Environment Agency has completed CEMARS certification through the Achilles carbonReduction programme.

Business Secretary Vince Cable has announced that a new national £50 million centre to accelerate the commercialisation of green technologies for offshore wind, wave and tidal power will be located in Glasgow.

Leading environmental organisation WWF said today that the first upturn in UK greenhouse gas emissions for a decade was an extremely worrying development and a ‘wake up call’ to government.

Renewables deals hit new record highs

Deals for 'new generation' renewable technologies – wind, solar, biomass - are entering the big time driving the market to new record highs, reports PwC in its annual global analysis of merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions in the renewable sector.

The Government has announced this morning that it will appeal against yesterday's decision by the Court of Appeal  on Feed-in Tariffs upholding the recent High Court ruling that UK Government cuts to the Feed-in Tariff were unlawful.
