32 UK cities bid to host Green Investment Bank

The Business Secretary Vince Cable has received  bids from 32 cities across the UK, including London, wanting to host the Green Investment Bank (GIB).

Drinking water in the Seychelles, currently threatened by irregular rainfall and longer dry periods, will be secured through an investment programme backed by EUR 27 million European Investment Bank funding.

UK water companies are calling for water industry watchdogs Ofwat and the Consumer Council for Water to adopt a pragmatic approach to proposals for the introduction of social tariffs for water bills.

UK water companies hit the bond markets

The start of 2012 has seen a flurry of UK water companies hitting the bond markets - with more in the pipeline.

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon George Osborne MP has called for more investment by Asian companies in UK infrastructure, citing Cheung Kong Group, owners of Northumbrian Water, as the example.

Green Investment Bank moves step closer

The establishment of the first Green Investment Bank (GIB) moved a step closer yesterday as Business Secretary Vince Cable published the criteria for deciding where the Bank will be based and what the Bank’s first priorities will be until 2016.

The European Investment Bank, the EU’s long-term financing institution, has today announced the signing of a €120 million finance contract for the design and construction of a seawater desalination plant using reverse osmosis technology in Ashdod, Israel.

Credit ratings agency Moody's has affirmed Northumbrian Water's ratings at Baa1, and changed its outlook to stable from negative.

Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment has approved funding for a unique project that will develop insurance solutions in Caribbean states particularly vulnerable to climate change.
